FORMER Absa Premiership teams University of Pretoria and Jomo Cosmos will renew their rivalry in the National First Division (NFD) tomorrow.
The last time the two teams met was in the Premiership last season before they were relegated. The NFD is a different kettle of fish – and the Tuks Stadium in Tshwane is set to erupt with excitement tomorrow (3pm) when Shaun Bartlett welcomes Jomo Sono.
Ezenkosi will go into this clash brimming with confidence, having won their first 2016-17 NFD match against Mthatha Bucks at the weekend.AmaTuks, on the other hand, were thumped 3-0 by AmaZulu.
Bartlett intends using the match againstEzenkosi as a springboard to return to winning ways. He admits, however, Cosmos are a hard nut to crack: “Their victory at the weekend is a big morale booster for them. We know what to expect from them, we’re focused on ourselves. We are playing home and winning home games is crucial.
“We did some introspection after our loss last week and know where to improve.”
Last season, while still in the PSL, the two teams met twice. AmaTuks defeated Ezenkosi 1-0 at home (Tuks Stadium) and lost 1-0 in the second round at Olen Park.
But Sono will not be fooled by previous results: “Both teams have lost players, so it will be a different ball game.
“Our interest going into this game is to get the three points – it doesn’t matter how we get there.”
